Monthly Theme: Care for the Poor – Compassion
Karma Chameleons – In an interview, Culture Club front-man Boy George explained: “The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It’s about trying to suck up to everybody. Basically, if you aren’t true, if you don’t act like you feel, then you get Karma-justice, that’s nature’s way of paying you back.”
As metaphysicians, are we trying to audit our spiritual knowledge and practices or are we ready and willing to step forward and practice and live as one who embodies in body, mind, and soul?
In order to heal, we have to feel and know what has been creating our experiences to date. It can be unpleasant to delve into what’s not working – most of us would rather stay at the surface level of happy, happy, joy, joy. But, real healing and growth comes from facing our dysfunctions, so we know what’s been operating below the surface, and then identifying the Truth that exists. We have to face the “Valley of the Shadow of Death” in order to reach the True Light – and to know that we are always in the Light. As the Psalmist says, “If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I descend into Sheol (the land of the dead), behold, You are there also.” (Psalm 139.8)
In order to compassionately understand our own poverty, we must compassionately understand the beliefs that are creating it. We cannot heal another’s poverty until we understand and begin to heal our own.
This week, we will take a look at the underlying causes/beliefs – the “four winds of conflict”. Next week, we will look at the four attributes of Wholeness, which restore our True “I”, even in the storm.
