“Do The Right Thing!”
Integrity – Be Truthful in Facts and Motives
In 1989, Director Spike Lee’s film of the same name was released. And as Spike always does, he pointed the viewer to a very critical idea and challenged us to “Do The Right Thing.” But in order to do so, we must know what The Right Thing is and not only that but we must know what the word “Right” even means to us.
Doing what is “Right” is to have or demonstrate “Integrity,” but again what does that mean? And not just what does it mean as a concept but what does it mean to study The Science of Mind and Spirit, to Practice Religious Science and apply our spirituality as a person of integrity, walking the walk? How do you spot it? What are the telltale signs of it?
The Science of Mind point of view aligns completely with the dictionary definition of “integrity”: the state of being whole and undivided. We understand this on the Universal level and particularize it at the individual level. Since God is equally present in and as all of Its creation, each individual is an expression of integrity that is demonstrated through practices such as honesty, compassion, forthrightness, generosity, and strength of character. We also understand that we are imbued with volition – the power of choice – which can, unfortunately, be used to opt out of integrity and make choices that do not serve our own best interests or that of others touched by us.
